Dental Crossbite

The top teeth are meant to fit over the bottom teeth like a lid. Crossbites occur when on or more upper teeth are crossed in and sit behind the lower teeth.

Crossbites can either be present on both sides of the mouth or just on one side.

Crossbite can be a result of abnormal jaw growth – or due to a tooth erupting into an abnormal position.

Crossbites can cause uneven wear of the teeth and can also interfere with normal jaw closure causing the lower jaw to shunt forward or to one side. This could lead to abnormal growth of the lower jaw and /or jaw joint problems and pain.

Crossbites should be corrected as early as possible – to avoid the problems mentioned above.
